Dr Jamie Coleman is an Associate Professor of Surgery and the Vice-Chair of Wellness in the Department of Surgery at the University of Louisville. She is an acute care surgeon specializing in trauma, emergency general surgery, and surgical critical care. She completed her general surgery residency in Chicago at Cook County Hospital and Rush University and her trauma and surgical critical care fellowship in Atlanta at Grady Memorial Hospital with Emory University.

Her research focus is on the physiologic impact of sleep deprivation, stress, and burnout amongst physicians and surgeons. She is the PI for the SuPer Trial (Surgeon Performance Trial), the largest study of continuous physiologic monitoring of acute care surgeons. In addition to her scientific publications, her focus on the intersection of physician wellness and work-life integration has been featured in Forbes, Huffington Post, and US News and World Report. She is active in several national organizations, serves on the board for the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma, and is a host of The Operative Word, the podcast of the Journal of the American College of Surgeons.
